Isn't it amusing how patents have all of a sudden become Evilâ„¢ because opponents are arguing, basically, that they should have the right to copy at will, sans compensation, and irrespective of benefit and/or hardship to you and your livelihood anything you create because, well, BECAUSE.
I could have slept well without Android releasing that particular "open" absurdity to the world.

Very disappointing to say the least ...
This is becoming more common. Perhaps one of the largest "patent holding companies" is Intellectual Ventures, and supposedly they have raised over $5 billion from companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Sony, Nokia, Apple,Google, SAP, Nvidia and eBay. Ironically, Intellectual Ventures recently announced it is suing Motorola Mobility, which Google is in the process of buying. Kind of like being bit by the hand that feeds you.
(By the way, Intellectual Ventures can make a somewhat credible argument for the value/purpose of patent trolls.)
