Somewhat off topic, but I believe past performance is indicative of
future expectations....
Be careful of manufacturer claims. In "Reliably Erasing Data From
Flash-Based Solid State Drives"
(www.usenix.org/events/fast11/tech/full_papers/Wei.pdf), Wei, Grupp,
Spada, and Swanson found a number of drives which did not perform as
stated.
In addition, FIPS conforming thumb drives by Kingston, SanDisk and
Verbatim were broken by SySS due to faulty implementations
(http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/NIST-certified-USB-Flash-drives-with-hardware-encryption-cracked-895308.html).
