I have good luck with Apple stuff too :) FaceTime though uses some ports that our firewalls do not permit access through. And when trying with other government facilities we were unable to connect unless they were on the local LAN not going through the firewall.
My stuff at home works fine, but as you probably know, whenever something is wrong with a Mac it's always the macs fault, right? A quick call to most help desks that will be the first answer you receive to any problem... "Hey, the coffee maker isn't working.... well thats because you're on a mac!" :)
