Actually, iirc it was possible to make phone calls with a Newton, though it
was a hack. It was definitely possible to do phone phreaking with them.
(Which is a different sort of hack.)
Also, Newtons had modems and Ethernet capability. There was even a hack that
allowed the later Newtons to use 802.11b wireless, if the cards were the
first generation Apple OEM cards. (I don't remember the company that OEM
manufactured them or the model name.)
