NIST's IT Security Automation Conference is being held next week in Arlington, VA. More info is here:
http://www.nist.gov/itl/csd/7th-annual-scap-conference.cfm
For those attending the conference, a Birds of a Feather session has been arranged to discuss SCAP activities (such as expressing security baselines in those formats) for Mac OS X. We will meet at:
12:30pm (over lunch) on Tuesday (Nov 1) in the Capitol Room
The Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) defines specifications that are intended to provide a common language for describing security-relevant information about products and systems' configuration.
These include an XML schema for describing security guidance/checklists (XCCDF) as well as an XML schema that describes compliance checks (OVAL).
Useful SCAP content and scanning tools, as well as baselines, are currently available for other platforms. This session is an opportunity for the group to discuss current activities and obstacles, as well as future opportunities for collaboration, for SCAP on OS X.
We anticipate several security product vendors, large enterprise systems administrators, and representatives from NIST and Mitre will attend.
