Here is a line from John Gruber that I think says a lot: "Eight days from today they’re shipping a product that two years ago would have been impossible at any price, and they’ve made it look easy."
As a comparison, NEC sells a monitor with the exact same number of pixels as the iPad (2048 x 1536), and it costs $5,000.
