John,
I understand the desire to use Java to program SPAWAR because you can more easily configure it for a greater number of OSes without rewriting the software but how much effort would it take to
reprogram the SPAWAR SCAP application to run natively using Xcode? I know the market for this version might be small but it might also be growing and having a native SCAP-based monitoring system built first for OSX instead of being adjusted to almost work
with OSX would be really nice. I'm sure you know about the SCAP-on-Apple project. This might be a nice program to develop under that project, getting away from Java and providing benefit for government OSX users. Just a thought…..

Further, certainly for my program and SPAWAR in general, there will come a point at which there will be a known vulnerability in Java 6 and with no forthcoming patch, there will be directive to kill it, full stop, no matter what. Could that be tomorrow,
or is it more likely to be six months from now? Or twelve? It would be very useful to know. Right now, we're in the land of the shambling not-quite-dead, as Apple has just released an update for Java 6u45!
