As I understand it, the Fed-talk list is about issues dealing with the purchase, installation and maintenance of Apple products. Discussing business and manufacturing processes of those products would seem to me to be part of that process, and the employees chosen by those manufacturers (including rumors of their ill treatment in foreign countries) seems to be fair game.
You're assuming that the initial outlay to set up elsewhere than Arizona would lead to less profit. I maintain that the good will of producing jobs where needed and thinking about people over process would, in the end, actually increase profit.

Well, I'd ask 1st of all what this has to do with Fed-Talk, but also...
Apple generally doesn't do a whole lot of "on-the-job" training for manufacturing. Manufacturing is typically handled through subcontractors, so Apple needs to put the jobs in places where there are already resources (educated workforce, plants, distribution centers, etc) in place. Beyond that, while I personally agree that it would be good, Apple's fiduciary obligation to shareholders is to maximize profits. If it is more profitable to manufacture in Arizona than Kentucky, then they are essentially obligated to do so.

No, my point isn't that they should just build in the US but that they should build in depressed areas in the US, such as Kentucky, and provide these people with on-the-job training kills to make them loyal and secure Apple employees.

"We are proud to expand our domestic manufacturing initiative with a new facility in Arizona, creating more than 2,000 jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and construction," Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet told CNET. "This new plant will make components for Apple products and it will run on 100 percent renewable energy from day one, as a result of the work we are doing with SRP to create green energy sources to power the facility."
And of course, there are detractors who don't understand the nature of risk or the nature of tooling for a new product being an economical opportunity for a new assembly plant vs arbitrarily recreating tooling systems for an existing product...

Apple, of course, could be gradually expanding the facility to handle more lines of Macs, and may even one day include iPhones and iPads into its production plans. This may just be a start of something bigger.
Until then, this is little more than a glorified and expensive publicity stunt.
But over all, I think you are getting your wish.

One would think, as innovative as Apple is, that they'd set up manufacturing plants in these places in Kentucky, etc. where jobs are desperately needed instead of overseas.
