Tried to update to 10.9 twice today. Both failed in the same way:
system begins booting with Apple logo and spinning gear, then
apple changes to circle with slash, gear spins forever.
It refused to boot on the Recovery volume.
Booting on another drive and removing the /OS X Install... folder
permits it to boot on 10.8.5 again.
This is a MacPro4,1 with 8G ram and 46 GB available on the OS drive (mirror).
I believe at the update to 10.7, I did a clean install onto a two-internal-drive mirror,
created using Disk Utility.
The update of this mirror to 10.8 went without a hitch. Could mirroring
be the problem with Mavericks?
