Enterprise is roughly 10% of the entire market, consumer 90%. Government is roughly 10% of enterprise, thus 1% of entire market.
As CEO of Apple, what percent of your efforts would you invest to capture, say 5% of 1% of the market? (0.05% of total market). Would that same investment in time, resources and advertising get more than 0.05% of the total market if applied to the consumer market?
That has to be the short version the conversations in Cupertino. It could also be the “what were we thinking?” conversation in Redmond as Mr. Balmer was shown to his golden parachute.
So to Apple folks here, Shawn, et al, thank you for your efforts now and in the future. The market potential certainly does not command your diligence but I, for one, personally appreciate it none the less.
