Apple basically invented BYOD. That has been their sales strategy since 1984 and Mac appeared with a handle built into the machine. People started brining their Mac into work then… That is how they got into corporate organizations. That is how they got into Indian Head Naval Base operations in 1987…
The tomahawk missile system was partially designed on the Mac; same for sidewinder missiles and hell fire missiles… on BYOD. Way before any policy existed about bringing our own devices in… Back then there wasn’t a good understanding of disks or even computer forensics.
In 1985 the study was done that resulted in the surgeon general’s warning about smoking and alcohol consumption being dangerous to the unborn fetus (printed on all packages today) on a BYOD Mac, presented to NIH execs from a BYOD Mac.
BYOD was common at General Electric and Texas Instruments in the early to mid 90s’ It was the only way they were introduced to the corporate culture in many cases. Once introduced, Macs took off like wild fire… the TI laptops were designed on Macs, some BYOD but most purchased by TI at that point. TI Calculators continue to be designed on Mac (of course)
And what is the bag for if not to haul your “portable” computer around so you can work on missile systems on the go! … :-)
