Apple's rules here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
I have a Late 2006 iMac (early 2007 is the starting point for iMacs), MB Pro 2,2 late 2006 (mid/late 2007 is the starting point for MBPs) and a white MB (no MacBooks supported...) All have Core2Duo processors. I'd happily live without the graphics, just to get the substantially improved memory management. (I don't use a lot of the graphics-intensive system features anyway, like Launchpad or Mission Control.)
