Do government groups take such information into consideration when authorizing device use or purchase?
Unfortunately, no. I've seen agencies accept and deploy in their infrastructure brand new Android devices that are 3 versions behind and that will likely never be updated because they were bought with wireless service as the "free hardware" offering (not separately priced for those of our friends in contracting) but the wireless carrier and phone vendors don't feel compelled to spend the money to keep them current.
Yet if I offered them a Windows 2000 laptop for "free" (or not separately priced) they would outright reject it Since Windows 2000 is unsupported. I guess being mobile exempts agencies from mandates to patch and update? Or blame it on the vendor?
Nice double standard.
Eric
