Absolutely pathetic that Apple tries to use security patching as incentive for OS adoption"
Windows 8 anyone? I volunteer time to support some non-profits. Due to the wonky tie into the Windows store for Windows 8.1 and nuances around the OEM license for Windows and how it's classified I can't get the machines to update through the store, I have to try to schedule time when I'm available and the free Dell tech support is available to get me a Windows 8.1 image, unlock code or whatever mojo they have to do to unlock Windows 8.1 for me. This has nothing to do with a botched windows update not enabling the store - trust me, I've been down all those paths (and for crying out loud MS, would it hurt to put in an obvious version check?). It's an OEM license on a domain issue that I'm not alone in experiencing but just haven't had time to run down. And right now those machines aren't getting updates. How many other small business are in a similar situation - and BTW, it's nearly impossible to tell 8 and 8.1 apart, the security center nor windows update complains, and WSUS cheerfully reports the machines are "up to date". ha!
TL;dr - it's not just Apple - the world is changing (not saying better/worse - that's another topic; just making an observation)
