Yes, this is s known issue with safari. You have to go into Debug mode in Safari and check Disable Per-tab Web Processes. Basically, Safari keeps refreshing tabs in the background and running processes while you are working in Webmail. This hoses webmail and throws that error. Once I stopped this, everything worked fine.
To enable Debug menu, Quit Safari and go to Terminal
Quit Safari
Launch the Terminal and enter the following defaults write command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 1
Relaunch Safari
To turn off the Debug menu, simply use the command
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 0

FWIW I was able to get to my NMCI OWA on Yosemite just fine. I don’t regularly use it, though, and don’t have a lot of meetings scheduled in it, and so did not see anything like what you experienced.
