Morning Paul,
Nice questions. NFC Near Field Communications is the technology used. The Distance is about 20cm. you don’t have to touch but you must be very close.

Since the list is quiet I thought I'd throw out a nutty question. How could Apple Pay technology be used for official business? I know it can (probably) be used for purchases but I'm wondering if the code reading tech can be used like QR tech with a code or pattern being altered to be able to track items (and personnel?) for inventory, etc. What else might it be tweaked to do?
Also, what is the range of the signal from, say an Iphone to the "cash register" reading device? Must they touch?
Thanks! Your need is my mission!
Paul

September & October are Apple’s big software release months — final releases of iOS, OS X, Xcode, and numerous apps. We are all busy updating our systems, finding out what is & isn’t working, and updating our own code.
Even with access to the betas, fall is still a mad rush for me.
