Symantec Endpoint Protection. My IAM makes me install some AV on my Mac. At home I actually broke down and installed it since I was sometimes using my Mac for work.
Hmmm… protect your machine by installing a package famous for being a vector of attack, eh? :)
I’ve just been struggling with installing Java Developer Kit (JDK) and IDEs. First I tried the IntelliJ IDEA development tool. It wouldn’t work with the Java I had installed (I don’t remember if I installed Java 7 or 8). Then I read that IntelliJ *only* worked with Java 6 (oh, the horrors!) on my MacBook Pro (I think it has to do with the Retina display).
So I uninstalled whatever version of Java that I had.
I installed Java 6, but I eventually couldn’t handle it, and then removed it.
The steps I used to delete the Java versions were from
Removing Java 8 JDK from Mac
sudo rm -rf /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk<version>.jdk sudo rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/JavaControlPanel.prefPane sudo rm -rf /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
I now have JDK 8 and the latest NetBeans on my system. I did go to the Java system preferences panel and unchecked (in the Security tab)
“Enable Java content in the browser”
I’m still a little freaked about having Java on my system.
