Hi All:
I am in the process of migrating Xsans, and I have come to a pause in following what the Apple docs say to do. My original setup was:
1 A Mac Mini running Xsan 2.3.2 with the RAID going directly into the Mac Mini both with the fiber and the network
2. An old Xserve running Xsan 2.2.2 connecting through a Logic fiber switch and a private network
What I have done so far:
a. I have migrated the Mac Mini to Yosemite server, I have Xsan 4 running, and have both the Mac Mini and the RAID now connected to the Logic switch and the private ethernet network, and all is working fine
What I want to do:
Move the volumes on the Xserve to have the Mac Mini as the primary MDC and turn off the Xserve
What the Apple Docs say to do is boot the Xserve into target mode, and use Software Migration to copy over information to the Mac Mini I am loath to do that, because the only information I want copied is the necessary information on the Xsan volumes, and I am concerned that running Software Migration will wipe out some or most of what I have set up on the Mac Mini.
My Questions:
1. Is there another way to do this - such as if I copy information by “hand” what directories/files do I need to copy to the Mac Mini.
2. I can see all the volumes on the Mac Mini that the Xserve uses because they are now all on the same fiber and Ethernet networks. Is there a way to set up the Mac Mini as the fallover MDC, have it fallover, and then have the Mac Mini become the primary?
Thanks for any help.
-Roy
