I am not unable to find any documentation about this in the Bluetooth SDK. I am interested to develop laptop applications (e.g., G4 Powerbook) that would use Bluetooth headsets as input devices. There are few headset out there but none claims would work PC/Mac. If there is no native support in Mac OS X, is there any 3rd party software would do the trick? Device detection ?

Hello, I'm new to bluetooth development and I don't know if these are basic questions or not. I've looked in the header files, etc. and found a method . +[IOBluetoothDevice registerForConnectNotifications:selector:]. I'm developing an application that needs to detect when a user selected bluetooth device comes within range of a Mac (ex. John has a cell phone in his pocket and he walks into his office and his Mac says "Hey I just realized that John walked in because I've detected his cell phone"). and then perform some user defined action based on that 'proximity' event. Is there a call available in the API to do this ? How would I set this scenario in motion ? Is using the call above on the right track or does it only deal with a connection being made. We support obj-C, and have C wrappers that could be used in any C/C++ bit of code. However, the stack cannot be called from a Carbon context yet. We do not support Java, and suspect that if you attempt to do a JNI bridge you will run into some difficulties with the UI elements, but the core stack would probably work fine (IOBluetoothDevice APIs, etc), although we have definitely not tried it, so your mileage may vary. In regards to what you should learn - I would recommend you jump in to learning obj-C. It is very similar to java - in fact I think a lot of the ideas of java were modeled after it. Maybe try 'lsof' at a shell prompt ( | grep /dev/cu) to see who might have it open. Perhaps some process died, and it lingering on as a zombie, and still has it open? thanks for the suggestion, but it seems there's no other process that has it open. Do you agree? Of course, I found another way to accomplish what I wanted to do. I would have liked my design better if the withIncomingRFCOMMChannel method were defined as mentioned. In theory, the IOBluetoothOBEXSession class encapsulates all of the necessary public API for an OBEX session. To that end, it shouldn't be necessary to expose your specific subclass at all. However if you do add new API, your clients will need to know that they are getting an instance of your subclass. Your best bet is to just subclass +withIncomingRFCOMMChannel:... and then cast the result to the appropriate class. In general, I'm a big fan of strongly typing return values as much as possible (i.e. returning IOBluetoothOBEXSession * instead of id). The argument is that by including the type in the return, the compiler will be much more likely to catch any programming errors since it knows more about the object. If we had returned id in that API, all clients would have had to cast the result to an appropriate type to get the benefit of the compiler's type checking instead of only the cases where a subclass had new API to expose. And in the case of +withIncomingRFCOMMChannel:..., the return type is technically correct since in your subclass, you are still returning an IOBluetoothOBEXSession *, but is also a member of your subclass as well. It may even be possible to declare your +withIncomingRFCOMMChannel:... to return your class rather than IOBluetoothOBEXSession, although I have not personally tried that approach. error opening Bluetooth serial device

Hi, I'm trying to open a Bluetooth serial device but get an error message that the file is busy (errno 16). The box I'm trying to talk to is the 'LinTech RS232 industrial adapter' (http://www.lintech.de/english/index.html) Doing this from a Win2000 terminal works fine. The device is created with the Bluetooth Serial Utility as /dev/cu.linout (resp. /dev/tty.linout) and shows up OK (e.g. in ZTerm or when talking to the IORegistry). However trying to open it gives me the above error message, no matter wether I try in ZTerm, Tcl/Tk or C (and I'm not aware of any application that might claim the device exclusively). System is OS X 10.2.5 any ideas?
