Now I'd like to revert to the original firmware in order to get the device working with Virtual PC. Unfortunately I can't find the original DFU file and D-Link's support does not help me. Although it is an all-Java stack, it still uses some JNI that is specific to Win32 operating systems. However, if you're interested in using Java on MacOS X, then you should look into the Avetana stack. But, knowing nothing about it, I have no idea. We provide both OBEX and RFCOMM Obj-C samples in our SDK, that should be a good jumping off point for you. And since java was designed with a tip of the hat to Obj-C, I would think the learning curve shouldn't be too terrible. The Java app uses AWT for the GUI and a jnilib native library for traditional serial port access. I have based my code on Apple's JNI Example which calls a dylib from a JNI library. ( http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/JNISample/JNISample.html ) I have gotten as far as putting up the Bluetooth device selector controller but I have quickly run into threading problems. When I click on the "Search" button of the dialog, I get a "<NSObjectInaccessibleException> NSDistantObject access attempted from another thread" I have been cautioned about the threading limitations of Bluetooth. I understand that Bluetooth must run in a single thread, and that the UI must run in the main thread. What I don't understand is *how* to make my Bluetooth code run in the main thread. Since the BT code is in a dylib called from a jnilib I don't even know if it is possible. In an earlier stab at a solution, I tried using the Java Objective-C bridge, basing my code on the sample provided at http://www.montagetech.com/developer_bridget.html In that case, I also got a threading error - "Apple AWT Java VM was loaded on first thread -- can't start AWT." I gave up that approach because I was already unhappy with the workarounds required to get Xcode over the bridge. Also, Apple has a Q&A cautioning against mixing AWT and Cocoa Java which recommends using JNI. ( http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1342.html ) But if the bridge is ultimately more promising than JNI, I'll pursue it, assuming that someone can tell me how to avoid the AWT error I'm faced with now. I'm hoping there's at least one Java AWT/Bluetooth/Java Objective-C bridge/threading expert out there who can solve problems like this in his sleep. My definition of single IC means RF + baseband + controller is one IC. Both CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) and Broadcomm have single chip solutions for Bluetooth. Look at http://www.csr.com/products/icfamily.htm for family of ICs from CSR and http://www.broadcom.com/products/product.php?product_id=BCM2033 for Broadcom. So, my questions are: Does anyone know the needed space for the ic chips? Because this solution should be for a very short distance (round about 5m) is it possible to use "single-chip" solutions? Those characters are replaced by spaces. The property editor correctly displays those characters. The file encoding is UTF-8 as the header states. What can I do ? I tried to replace <dict> <key>DataElementType</key> <integer>4</integer> <key>DataElementValue</key> <data>sdflkjsdlfksdjflskdfjsldkfjslkdfj...(Base64encoded String of the UTF-8 bytes of the above string)</data> </dict> But that does not work either. The Palm only accepts data if there are enough credits for the socket. If the Mac wants to send data to a Palm that has not enough credits, the transmission is blocked until the credits are advanced, or the connection is killed. Is there a way to check the credits of the other device from the Mac? I'd like to know how much data can be sent.
