how to map run loop input sources to specific hardware?

hi everybody, I'm quite new to mac programming, and I don't understand how run loops work. After a Bluetooth client established a connection to a server, it sends data. Then the client has to wait for an answer from the server to the callback ( - (void)rfcommChannelData:(IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel*)rfcommChannel data:(void *)dataPointer length:(size_t)dataLength ). I tried to wait with a NSConditionLock, but it seems to block completely the thread. I saw in the archives that I should use a "run loop"??? But I see in the ADC documentation that the NSRunLoop has to have input sources. How can I define an input source that specifically map on the Bluetooth hardware, so the loop knows what to wait for? Do I need to manually add the input source, or do the delegate methods already did that automatically? Can anybody tell me how to make the run loop works? Reproducable System-Crash

Hi Apple-Support, I have an annoying problem while developing applications for the palm Tungsten T. When I send RFCommData from my PowerBook to the palm too rapidly, the powerbook crashes after a short while. My application is just a modification of the RFCommServerSample Application found in the DevTools. It modified it so it continuousely sends data. On the receiving side, PTELNET can be used to receive the data. If needed, I can send my Application to someone at apple. This is really an annoying bug. Hmm. Would http://www.javabluetooth.org/ not work ? It's 100% Java and apparently uses the serial API. I haven't tried it personally but it may work for you, although it does require that the OS register the dongle as a UART. Regards Ross. The problem, is that I have to write a program with a friend who works on Windows ... So if I write something in Obj-C, my friend has no change to do something with this code. Perhaps I will have to give a chance to VPC to code in Java on Windows from my Mac :( !! I hope that one day, Apple (or someone else) will write a JSR-82 version working for Mac, because the whole device community follows Java and not Obj-C !!! And with the boom of Ubiquitous devices that is on the way, this fact will become even more important ! You don't get the point. There's nothing magical about Obj-C compared to Java. Java is simply a programming language based upon a specification. All I'm saying is that Apple needs to spend more time on it's implementation of Java in order to accomodate the LARGE number of developers out there. Now, regarding the Webobjects comment: BEA and IBM both make JVMs and J2EE application servers. And infact, both companies support multiple platforms (including Windows, Solaris, and Linux). It's not rocket science, it just reiterates my previous point that they need spend more time on their implementation. If you enjoy Java and its programs, great -- I don't want to discourage you or fight with you. But the software that's selling Macs is not written in Java. None of it. Apple would be crazy to concentrate their resources on a language that they've tried twice before to exploit, to disastrous effect each time. (In the early days of Rhapsody Apple decided to port all of its bundled Obj-C apps to Java -- it found them so slow and buggy it ported them all back to Obj-C. Apple also decided to throw away the Obj-C WebObjects and port it to Java in 5.0. Haven't heard much about WebObjects lately, have you?) Chris, There's been a huge discussion lately on the Apple Java developer list on Apple's lack of support for Java altogether for OS X. Sheesh! There's actually more support for the JSR-82 on Linux than on OS X... ...and that's a crying shame Apple really needs to consider where it should focus its resources, because there are millions of Java programmers out there, compared to the thousands of Objective-C developers. Since Apple has a single stack for it's Bluetooth implementation (compared to the multiple stacks available on the Windows platform) it's actually an attractive platform for Java developers to use. With devices like the Nokia 6600 and the SonyEricsson P900, it would be nice to use the same language and API to develop applications on the mobile device and the desktop/laptop. Since the JSR-82 is the industry standard, it's only a matter of time before all mobile device manufacturers support it in their models. Bluetooth class 2, USB adapter

Hi there, I'm new to this list, so I'm really sorry if this has been asked (and answered) before, but I couldn't find it on the archives and no answers are readily available on Google. Anyway, I've just bought a USB bluetooth adapter for my (summer 2001) Quicksilver 733, and it doesn't work. I bought it because it had double the range (20m) of most other adapters I've seen...and it only cost me 10 quid (GBP)! On the side of the box it came in, it says "Bluetooth Class 2 USB Adapter". Could the fact that it's BT class 2 be the reason why it's not working in OS X? If so, is there a driver in development for which I could either be a tester or even a developer? I know the device itself works because Apple System Profiler describes it as a "bluetooth transceiver" and it even works in virtual PC...well, as much as anything works in windoze anyway! ;-) If anyone could help or even give me some pointers, I'd be extremely grateful. I've got a brand new Sony-Ericsson T630 that's just begging to be iSynched! Thanks a lot.
