Hi luc, MTU is indeed the max transmission size for a single packet. However, the APIs allow you pass us the whole buffer, and we will do the work of chopping up the whole buffer for you, and then transmitting it in pieces that fit into the MTU, until it is finished. What is channel MTU ?

Hi everyone, I see in the Bluetooth spec that the channel MTU is the max packet size that we can write (as a single bunch) into an L2CAP or RFCOMM channel. When I call NSLog(@"channel MTU = %i", ((int)[mChannel getMTU])); then the answer is 666, which I think means that I cannot write more than 666 bytes at once. But when I call exchangeDataStatus = [RfCommChannel writeSync:dataPointer length:length]; or exchangeDataStatus = [RfCommChannel writeAsync:dataPointer length:length refcon:nil]; with a 4000 bytes long message, the complete message appears in the remote device. Does anyone knows if the Bluetooth methods implementation has change without changing the API (handling the long message), or if I am just lucky that the message is carried over and that one day it could crash? As saif before on the list, IOBlutooth is less than thread safe ! IOBluetooth in threaded applications.

I'm seeing a problem when calling IOBluetooth methods from separate threads in my application. One thread periodically calls [IOBluetoothDevice recentDevices] while the user interface has a button which calls: [[IOBluetoothDeviceSelectorController deviceSelector] runModal]; And the panel does not operate properly, the run log reports a message from NSDistantObject: 2004-07-25 13:51:30.901 iStumbler[3415] NSDistantObject access attempted from another thread Clearly this is a threading issue; besides reorganizing my application to only call the IOBluetooth APIs from a single thread is there anything I can do to get my application working? Perhaps some documentation on how to write threaded applications with Bluetooth support? a leak? please help

I am having a problem which looks an awful lot like a memory leak, but I've played w/ every variable I could, released everything that appears to need to be released, and obviously am missing something somewhere.... Any pointers/tools (I did try the object alloc/dealloc tool already) would be greatly appreciated. The behavior is that after running for a while, the IOBluetoothDeviceRemoteNameRequest returns a status of "no memory". Apple's BT team is really helpful (as i experienced myself 2 weeks ago is SF ;-) ) so i have another question for them (or any other list member !) i would like my BT device selector to filter only phone/telephony devices. i've read the doc (and the headers this time !) and found that i should use something like : deviceSelector = [[IOBluetoothDeviceSelectorController alloc] init]; [deviceSelector setSearchAttributes:<#(const IOBluetoothDeviceSearchAttributes *)searchAttributes#>]; [deviceSelector runModal]; // test the return of runModal [deviceSelector getResults]; The problem for me is the searchAttributes structure... i'm not really familiar with low level stuff and must admit i'm lost... struct IOBluetoothDeviceSearchAttributes { IOBluetoothDeviceSearchOptions options; // Options. Aurilien, You should also consider that the module can be powered off, IOBluetoothLocalDeviceAvailable only tells you if the device is available. In the same header, few lines below there is: IOBluetoothLocalDeviceGetPowerState(BluetoothHCIPowerState* powerState). This will tell you if the device is on or off (or if it supports power switching at all, if it does not you should assume it is on). ...
