I just thought there might be a different way to identify a bluetooth device than its address. There are some phones (namely the Nokia 6310i) that choose a different address every time you switch on the telephone. Which means of course the app "forgets" about the phone every time. grrrr... My original implementation tried to connect every minute or so (in my present implementation the user initiates all connections which is a marketing request :-) >From what I've found so far, opening a connection to a device is fairly lightweight -- it doesn't seem to interrupt bluetooth operation on other devices, so you can find an interval that works best for your application. You need the Xcode Tools and you have the latest SDK automatically. The Apple Bluetooth SDK 1.5.3 is for Mac OS X v10.3.8 only. There is even no SDK for v10.3.9. Apple: Please give us an SDK for Mac OS X v10.3.9, enhance its installer to prevent installation on Mac OS X v10.4 and please enhance the Apple Bluetooth 1.5 (non-SDK) update installer not to override the 1.5.4 installation of Mac OS X v10.3.9. I'm not sure if I needed to do this, but in any case I wasn't warned that there would be any problems. Now, if I turn on my Apple Bluetooth keyboard and press a key, I get an immediate and complete system crash. I don't have access to the crash log right now, but it does look very similar to the one given here: http://lists.apple.com/archives/bluetooth-dev/2004/Feb/msg00026.html In particular, com.apple.driver.IOBluetoothHIDDriver appears at the top of the list of kernel modules in my log. The crash also happens in a similar situation: while trying to connect an input device. Also, if I use the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, it will crash as soon as it starts to search for nearby devices. I think the SDK is badly installed, or shouldn't be installed at all. This article says I shouldn't have needed to install anything: http://lists.apple.com/archives/bluetooth-dev/2005/Oct/msg00022.html Is the article correct? It mentions Bluetooth stack version 1.6.0 but I can find no other reference to that version. The 1.5.3 SDK installer itself gave me no warning of a later version, and it's the latest available for download. At this stage all I'm interested in is stabilising my system so that the keyboard doesn't crash it, and the Bluetooth Setup Assistant works. I can't find out how to uninstall the SDK. If I try to run the Bluetooth 1.5 *Update* installer, it claims the system is already up to date and does nothing. In short, what I'd like to know is: - what Bluetooth stack version Tiger is meant to have; - how I can reinstall that version (or uninstall the 1.5.3 SDK). Can anyone suggest anything?
