There's a "HCI Controller Selector" in the Utilities Menu. Or to frame it differently, I guess the user chooses which Bluetooth transceiver to use. I understand that the Apple Bluetooth API only supports one Bluetooth radio on the host. What I'm wondering is if there is any way to determine which one it is using, if more than one is available. Specifically, if my iMac has an internal Class 2 radio, and I plug in an external Class 1 USB dongle, which will the API use? And if it can use the external one, when does it switch? The GUI is a little confusing, but it does seem to work. So it does! Thankyou, I saw that option but didn't realise what it was. Thats interesting, I suppose the Explorer must be using some private API to do that. Having said that, check out my previous message to the list today and let me know if the USB dongle actually still works on 10.5.6. Uh, I haven't updated yet and I need to run some tests with my Class 1 dongle before I update to 10.5.6 if it could break things. That might be January.. What I guess I need now is some way of advising the user if they are *not* using a Class 1 dongle that they are only going to get a nominal 10m range instead of the 100m they might be expecting. The driver is sending a new command to the device: On 10.5.6, Packet Logger shows: HCI_Command: 0x04 - Unknown Informational Command 0x00000000: 04 10 01 01 :.... This appears to be a request for READ_LOCAL_EXTENDED_FEATURES with a page number parameter of 1. This command makes the 3rd party bluetooth dongle go catatonic and it stops responding to requests. I'm assuming this is a bug in the dongle, but just a heads up that 10.5.6 has some changes which might cause trouble for customers using non-Apple BT modules. Apple BlueTooth folks: please let me know if you want more information.
