Basically what I want to do is write a group communication service. However because it is impossible to connect to more than 7 devices simultaneously it would be good if it was possible that one of the 7 devices of this first piconet could form another piconet and then play the role of a router to get the packages from one piconet to the other one. In this way it would be possible to have a bluetooth network with more then 7 devices without having to park some of them. If it is not well explained please tell me, I will try to explain it in a better way. Any ideas are welcome. Even if you access the devices on a low hardware layer and do not use Apple's Bluetooth API? It can be done with Linux, so what's the issue with OS X? The Apple Bluetooth frameworks support communications with multiple devices, just not communication using more than one dongle/antenna/ HCI. I think the limit of allowable devices is 7 or 8, which is part of the Bluetooth spec iirc. according to some messages in the list archives it is not possible to use more than one bluetooth device at a time with the Bluetooth API. What I'd like to accomplish is to use multiple Bluetooth USB dongles that are connected to the Mac to send and receive files using OBEX to/from many different devices simultaneously. e.g. it should be possible to send different files to 3 different mobile phones while receiving files from 2 others and still do a device discovery at the same time. Since Apple's Bluetooth API seems to be limited to only one bluetooth device I'd like to know if there are any other ways to solve the problem. Is there a way to access the devices on a low- level layer and put a third-party Bluetooth API on top of it? I think Apple's driver only uses one bluetooth dongle. If you have more than one, I guess you can just open a connection to the bluetooth module (e.g. libusb) and implement your own bluetooth stack on top of it (e.g. based on BlueZ) or some embedded BT stack. In our old btnode system (an embedded system www.btnode.ethz.ch) for emulation and testing on the Mac, I've used BT on Mac without the OS (if I remember correctly).
