(The same thing happens when running the RFCOMMClientSample & RFCOMMServerSample apps from the Bluetooth developer examples*). If simple pairing is turned off (using Bluetooth Explorer) or if the connection is with an earlier system version (10.5.4), the pairing dialog doesn't appear. The connection succeeds regardless of the user's action on the pairing requests - it just adds unnecessary UI clutter and temporarily freezes the app - so I'd like to find a way to programmatically turn off simple pairing like Bluetooth Explorer does, or at least intercept the dialog. (Tried swizzling IOBluetoothDevice's requestAuthentication method but no dice). * Unrelated to the above, both the RFCOMMClientSample & RFCOMMServerSample examples from Xcode 3.1 have a bug that prevents remote messages from being displayed, due to a missing parameter: [[NSString alloc] initWithBytes:[dataObject bytes] length:[dataObject length]] [[NSString alloc] initWithBytes:[dataObject bytes] length:[dataObject length] encoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding] This email sent to site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com

Snow Leopard 64-bit. I never saw the crash until I built for 64-bits, but that could be just a coincidence. My code is working with an RFCOMM channel per Apple's example. Interestingly the crash occurs a substantial time after a Bluetooth device goes out of range (if at all) which means my code has long since released the corresponding RFCOMM channel object and closed the connection to the device. Perhaps I shouldn't be so quick to close the connection to the device since I'm still using [device remoteNameRequest:self]; to check if the device is within proximity. Help resolving Bluetooth crash

The program in question is Phone Amego which uses the Handsfree Profile to connect with a Bluetooth phone following Apple's RFCOMM_SPP example. Can anyone help me decipher what this means? Apple has locked BT to force companies who want devices to connect with iP/iPT to build "Made for iPhone" (MFI) device. This of coarse means company making such devices must -Accepting a contract with Apple that allows Apple to disable the Bluetooth device at their whim -Purchasing a semiconductor chip (available only from Apple) to include in every device -Can't make the device for resell i.e. every customer making an MFI device must deal directly with Apple i.e. you can't make MFI device for resale by another company or brand.
