Poor link quality leading to corrupted packets will certainly reduce battery life. Retransmission implementation is not strictly defined and it can have multiple modes based on requirements in the application including not to perform retransmission at all. I'm sure someone on this list can help me answer this question: Does an increase in PER/BER rates increase my Bluetooth LE power? I think I have read that a packet will continue to be retransmitted until it is acknowledged (via the NESN being different from the SN)? I'm assuming, if this is the case, packet errors will translate to turning the radio being on more frequently [using more power] than in the case of no packet errors. I got bitten by iOS's propensity to cache discovered stuff. I'm wondering it there's a better solution than rebooting to get it to truly re-discover characteristics? Characteristics suddenly coming back empty?

I have a BLE112 module with a few custom characteristics defined (simple strings). These were working fine, but now Core Bluetooth is returning empty (non-nil) strings for the "value updated" callback. Can't remember if I've mentioned this one before, but there's also Ubertooth (http://ubertooth.sourceforge.net) which sniffs both classic and LE flavors of Bluetooth. It's an open-source project but you can buy a manufactured one for ~$100. It relies on Kismet to monitor the actual traffic. I've only gotten it to work under Linux and VMWare so far but it provides a lot of raw data. The TI one is a lot simpler and more visual if only working on BTLE. Reconnecting after disconnection?

If my peripheral goes away, I get a delegate callback (although KVO on isConnected doesn't fire). But if that peripheral comes right back (say, it was reset), I don't seem to get notified.
