The Apple Bluetooth design guidelines document specifies the following for the AT+XAPL command:
vendorID: A string representation of the hex value of the USB vendor ID from the manufacturer, without the 0x prefix. productID: A string representation of the hex value of the USB product ID from the manufacturer, without the 0x prefix.
Any reason this is specifically the _USB_ VID/PID or is the Bluetooth SIG VID/PID, as supported by the Device ID Profile, allowed as well?
I think that is because Apple kept using USB VID/PID for most stuff. I would assume they never actually considered using the Bluetooth company identifiers. The Linux Foundation has an USB VID and we could reserve one for BlueZ if this gives us a benefit. Just need to ask Greg KH.
