I don't know why I assumed that 'Bluetooth File Exchange' uses the File Transfer Service and not Object Push.

This is the FTP service. I bet in Apple's File Exchange application you are just using the Push service. To describe it different you select "Send a file" rather then "Browse device", don't you?
I can send files to an unpaired device without the need of Authentication
