Hi Fred, It seems like something has changed in iOS 6.1.3 My latest tests show that both the device name and service uuids (of my iPhone) are discovered by my mac mini regardless of the backgrounded mode. This setup used to be problematic too. I haven't tested with another iPhone. Before this change I couldn't find any solution for this issue if the scanning had to be done in background (cannot scan with nil services). This is the main difference because the PDU length is 30 when background and 34 when active
The pb I see with that solution is that it is not possible for another device (in background) to detect the "advertising device" in background as well..
Because: To detect a device when in background mode: 1. the "advertising device" needs to send the service ID 2. The scaning device needs to filter on service ID
