Poor link quality leading to corrupted packets will certainly reduce battery life. Retransmission implementation is not strictly defined and it can have multiple modes based on requirements in the application including not to perform retransmission at all. I think I have read that a packet will continue to be retransmitted until it is acknowledged (via the NESN being different from the SN)? I'm assuming, if this is the case, packet errors will translate to turning the radio being on more frequently [using more power] than in the case of no packet errors.

If anyone can confirm, it will save me time doing more reading and research.
