You would expect it to fail with kIOReturnExclusiveAccess (exclusive access and device already open) -- you should file a bug with Apple. I was using a Nokia 6310i and it was connected to the AddressBook application. When I tried to open it from the RFCOMM_Open_SPP_Example I got this error. Without the connection to AddressBook it works fine. Seems like the phone only accepts one serial connection at a time which makes sense. Hm. But "device not open" seems like a less than perfect thing to tell the user. Naturally his/her reaction will be: "Ok. But why?" This email sent to site_archiver@lists.apple.com
