Re: Folder Browsing on a BT phone
It looks like BFE is having the same problem with this phone.
I get an empty root folder - which is probably empty.
It turns out that this might not be so. We have determined that the folder listing from the phone is actually badly formatted XML, therefore the XML parser is probably throwing it out and not showing any of its (possible) contents. If you look in /tmp during your folder browsing, you will see the XML folder listing files, and you can look at them directly in a terminal with the 'cat' command and see if it contains any interesting data, or if it is empty.
When I try to create a new folder - I get a response that the root
folder is read-only ( from the opCode).
Does it mean that I need to provide some sort of authentication when I
connect
or is my phone's File Transfer Profile not implemented right?
This is most likely a limitation of the phone. They (probably) don't want you to create folders, for whatever reason they chose.
I can put a file on the phone, however, it gets placed into the
Incoming Messages "folder".
The phone must be somehow setup to do that.
Well that's a start! ;-)
Another thing: (keeping in mind that I just got this phone and I am not
exactly sure how Symbian is set up) I have a ton of applications and
pictures (many of them in separate folders), how come they do not show
up in the root folder?
This is strictly up to the phone and how it shows files and folders during an FTP session. The OS is most likely choosing to only show you a subset of things, if anything at all (see above to determine this for sure). Welcome to Bluetooth FTP! 8-) Jason bubba@apple.com

Or you can use Bluetooth File Exchange to browse the phone and see
what it
returns. Does it show any files in the list? If the results are the
same, it
most likely doesn9t have any items in it to return. You can try
putting a
file on there, using BFE as well.
