I realize it's been about a month since this issue was last discussed, but the comment was made that knowing what users need affects the priority of API development up at Apple. I too, feel that I "need" the ability to do inquiries without using Apple's browser. The application I'm developing manages multiple connections to both USB and bluetooth devices. The devices are (usually one) interactive whiteboard and (usually multiple) tablets. My app is a Mac version of a pre-existing Windows app. The powers that be prefer the Mac version's interface to work as much like the Windows version as possible, and the Windows version manages all of the devices in it's own single, custom window. The fact that on the Mac I have to bring up Apple's panel to connect a device instead of managing all of the devices on my own window has not gone over very well. And it's not just the Windows look and feel compatibility. I'm a Mac guy and even I don't like the way it looks/works from a Mac-centric perspective. Yes, I can accomplish what needs to be accomplished with the current functionality, but I feel my app would look and work a bit better if I could do the inquiry myself, without the panel, and manage the results myself.
