Re: Recommended Packet Sniffer?
Can't remember if I've mentioned this one before, but there's also Ubertooth (http://ubertooth.sourceforge.net) which sniffs both classic and LE flavors of Bluetooth. It's an open-source project but you can buy a manufactured one for ~$100. It relies on Kismet to monitor the actual traffic. I've only gotten it to work under Linux and VMWare so far but it provides a lot of raw data. The TI one is a lot simpler and more visual if only working on BTLE. There's a dongle available that comes preloaded with the correct firmware:

Note that the software is pretty unstable if you stream large amounts of packets.

Have had no trouble running it under VMWare and Windows 7/8. When you plug it in VMware asks if you want to assign it to the Mac side or Windows.
The other thing is to make it work you have to manually update the dongle with the sniffer firmware. It's been a while, but I have a vague memory of having to use the TI programmer to do the updating, and that's a windows app too.
Overall, much cheaper than running a separate PC. And if you have a second monitor you can put the PC full screen on that one then debug in Xcode in one screen and watch the traffic in the other.

Hey guys,
I'm looking to pick up a packet sniffer. I know we all like the TI CC2450, but it doesn't look like it comes with software for OSX, and I'd rather not have two computers open to debug a single application. Is there an equivalent package for OSX?
Cheers, Gareth
