Bluetooth security talk at Defcon
Bruce Potter, from the Shmoo Group, gave a talk about Bluetooth security at Defcon this weekend. A lot was intro for folks who don't know much about it, but he also talked about his sniffing tool. It's called Bluesniff and it's a front-end for redfang, a fairly primitive tool released recently. (See this article at http://www.securityfocus.com/news/5896.) These tools are both at the proof-of-concept stage and their authors are attempting to get people talking seriously about Bluetooth security. Bruce's comments about possible exploits mostly were how applications are vulnerable because of poor or nonexistent implementation of security features. Also, Bluetooth is a particularly attractive target because the data passed over the air is very personalized, and could be used by a motivated attacker to track individuals.
