I would like to be able to programmatically verify, given a user name and password combination, that the user given has access to the local machine. This there a general API that will do this (so that it doesn't matter what mechanism the machine is using for user/password storage) or some sample code that shows how to do just this. Umm, what kind of event do you want to find in the EventRecord? If you're just drawing, do you want an updateEvt? Thumbnail?

Hi, I have a large image jpg I display in a NSImageView. I resize the NSImage then I store it to an NSDictionary, as NSData, but later, when I recall it and display to to a NSImageView, it has the same original dimensions. I guess I didn't scaled the image but only the way it has been shown. Instead I want to store only a small scaled image (Thumbnail) of the original image. How can I do? Hi all - I'm writing a screensaver module & I need to get ahold of an EventRecord (carbon style) every drawRect call. What is the best way? * use WaitNextEvent to get it directly. * override sendEvent & get a NSEvent. But what is the best way to convert an NSEvent into a EventRecord? * some other way? Ok I got it working, I followed a few of your suggestions, and simply copied my plist to a dictionary before I wrote to it, and then added the profile attributes in a child dictionary. I then used the profile name as a key for the parent dictionary, then wrote back the parent dictionary back to the plist. Works great. As I wrote in my original email, +initialize is NOT called if no other method of the class is is called.... so your suggestion does not work. BTW, this is documented behavior. Not sticking login item

Hello, I have a feature in my app that allows the user to set my app as a login item. However, since Mac OS X.2.5 people have sent me mail saying that my app doesn't stick in the login items. I have experiences this same thing too. Sometimes it will work on login but eventually it will disappear from the login items. I know this worked in 10.2.4 and I'm also very sure I didn't change my code. Is this a known bug in 10.2.5 or is the bug coming from my app? First thanks to everyone who have helped. I didn't get help on an abs2rel routine, but have written a crude one if anyone needs such a path conversion utility. My next dilemma concerns how do I find out what name and directory a user has given a file the first time they save from the dataRepresentationOfType routine. fileName doesn't work. It hasn't been set yet...
