I want NSImage so I can put an NSImageCell in an NSOutlineView and walk away !
I suggest you read the extensive comments on creating NSBitmapImageRep and NSImage objects in the Snow Leopard release notes, and choose a strategy accordingly (even if you're still on Leopard).
