Hi Tyler, As i am sure you are now aware, Photoshop is not the best platform to use Multichannel profiles. For one, it cannot properly softproof your resulting separation. All the same, please send the profile to me for analysis. I can have a look. I have an idea what it may be but I'll check first and let you know. Frankly, we work with software capable of creating and utilising Multichannel profiles and even Multichannel device links which is unique. I am curious to see how well i1Profiler handles this task. When and if you send me your data, would you kindly let me have your characterisation data and give me a brief outline of how you created the target and measured it etc... NEC software...

After upgrading to Mac OS Lion, and looking to update software, I found two different NEC calibration software, Spectraview II and Profiler 4128, the second appearing the newest, and download link is located at Basicc website. I wonder with one would be better with the Multisync WQXi series. Researching about, I found some forum posts talking about Multiprofiler, will this work only with PA series? dtp-70 lamp - where?

Hope someone can help with this. Love my DTP-70 but the lamp is already too old and giving occasional errors. However X-Rite does not sell the spare: flat-fee "send for repair" at $635, which of course is crazy, and if you add on top that I'm not in the US, I'd be paying for a lamp change over $1,000. Can someone point me to the brand/model of the replacement lamp I need to buy, and/or a source? thanks, Roberto Michelena Infinitek Lima, Peru

When we ran CMYKOG they had to use hexware to gain control of the O and G channels. Adobe told us they were working on 6 color support. Photoshop requires that the multichannel profiles be valid profiles. There are a lot of non-ICC conformant multichannel profiles out there, which Adobe code will reject (because they can't be used). This behavior has been consistent from the beginning with i1Publish, through 2 updates, and PS5, through a few updates, and remains the same with everything completely up to date. PS5 has the ability to convert to a multichannel profile in the advanced dialogue box. It will preview there as well, until you actually convert. I'm not dependent on that preview nor aware of it's usefulness... anyway, when the button is pushed... one winds up with a multichannel file, preview no longer in play. I have used this to evaluate the O and G channel content of CMYKOG profile conversions, in an attempt to educate myself of the unpredictable and possibly useless O and G generation controls in i1Publish... that is another issue... My real question is- why would some CMYKOG profiles be available in the convert to list in PS5 multichannel options, and not others? All profiles are made with the same software, opening them in Colorthink indicates no differences in tags or other concerns, all are v2 profiles. There is literally no detectable reason why Photoshop can see and use some of these, and not others. Unfortunately my real issue is not this, but troubleshooting i1Publish completely on my own with no support whatsoever. But now facing the inability of PS to use some of these profiles puts that effort even farther behind. Barry, As for the Eizo, we are the company who first calibrated to our ASIC ( Eizo designed and built chipset) entirely via USB. We do this in both medical imaging and a selection of "professional" and graphics monitors.Simply put, if you calibrate, unplug and move the monitor to another computer, the profile will remain. An icc. profile appied to the chip gives you the best possile results for calibrating "to the numbers". With Eizo-designed ColorNavigator software, the are even more ways of achieving accurate results, such as manually inputting primaries. There are several ways to profile the monitor depending on what you want to achieve and what devices you can meausre with- we support most all of the devices and our new internal deivce can be correllated to high-end refernce devices. Any more info would be way to salesy for the blog. Feel free to contact me offline if you need any more info. As for La Cie, I am aware of how they calibrate (since our Japanese R&D division has tested them), but it would be inappropriate to answer for LaCie, or the company who manufactures their displays. Hi - We current use Windows XP with no hope of changing anytime soon. This makes color managing our monitors difficult because XP requires admin privledges to write a profile and to apply a profile. (These are two separate actions.) Our security policies do not allow users adlmin rights making color management very difficult. But many of our QA workstations have Eizo or LaCie monitors which allow monitor calibration via the monitor internal LUT rather than the video card LUT.
