Canon Ipf 9100 Yellow cast.

Hopefully someone can help. I'm in the process of up grading our computer that runs our EFIxf rip (ver 4.5.7). The old rip (4.1) produces color fine, but the prints off the new rip have a yellows cast. I'm not using the EPLs from the old rip because they error out in the new rip. So new EPLs and media ICC profiles need to be made on the new rip and that's were we get the yellow cast. I'm using the EFI color management software on the new rip to make the ICC profiles, (for the old rip I use Monaco). I've done the measurements using a DTP70 and a i1 and get the same results from both devices. This is our last Canon printer we have in the shop, we don't have this yellow problem with our Epson printers running through the new rip. Any thoughts on what might be going on would be appreciated. Epson & Velvet Fine Art Linearization Fail

Hi Martin I think its right that Epson simply don't allow any access for linearisation of non listed papers. I dont think they ever have within the driver. As you know even the Mac version of my old favourite ColorBurst X-Proof does / did not include lin. options ( but could, on papers I tested) be made to work successfully using an existing "paper setting"). Is the Velvet behaving so differently to the "fine art" options that are present, Smooth Fine Art and Textured Fine Art? Colorburst Xproof Win does allow full linearisation and ink limiting etc. on all the x900 inks, good luck, though, its hard to get right. It's rumoured that even GMG are experimenting with reverting to RGB profiles on 900 machines, to allow Epson's "internal" sausage machine to deal with the CMYKOG (+lite) ink separations. It seems that the only option, practically, is to find he best existing paper setting and build on that. Maybe use Colorport as you can inklimit the targets should the need arise ( even RGB ones, it seems ) and that might, in some cases, be neccessarry. Given your interesting comments on i1 Profiler, many of which I agree with, have you tried the Mirage profile builder add on? I understand it uses the Spectroproofer and can even print to a non spectroproofer equipped machine, then measure on a machine which has the spectro. I wonder if anyone's tried it? Be interesting to know who is behind that profiling engine. Indesign CS3 Desktop Color Printing Problem on Mac OS 10.6.8

I upgraded my Mac Pro from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 in order to run Photoshop CS6. Now my color managed RGB printing from Indesign CS3 does not work. The old path allowed me to let Indesign handle color and print no color adjustment to my Epson R2400 (with the trick "print as bitmap" chosen in the Indesign print dialog). The upgrade to 10.6.8 wiped out my Photoshop color-managed printing, too, but I was able to restore it by dumping the Apple-Epson drivers and installing the "Epson R2400 installer 10.6.x" from the Epson web site (it appears to be driver 6.5.7). But Indesign is still not cooperating. Even though I let Indesign handle color and print no color adjustment, I still get what looks like some kind of double profiling. Does anyone have a solution for me, or can anyone point me in the right direction? Jeff Stevensen

Windows RT display calibration and profiling

Now that the Surface is out and it's the same underlying color management structure as Win7 or Win8, except that x86 compiled applications will not run on RT, will be there be any offerings for RT, which will necessarily mean a recompile for ARM processors? Curious. / Roger

CMYK blacks to RGB blacks

Hi, I regularly need to mass convert images in CMYK to sRGB for onscreen viewing. The color conversion should aim for visual appeal, not color accuracy, meaning 100% black ink (be it mixed with others or not) should always map to 0 RGB. Most CMYK profiles used in desktop publishing these days do not always produce those conversions (images I deal with mostly come with FOGRA39 and US Web Coated SWOP v2 embedded). Rich blacks that Photoshop would create with those profiles (i.e. made of a mix of all 4 CMYK inks) do convert, with perceptual rendering intent, to 0 RGB, but solid blacks (i.e. made only of 100% K ink) convert to dark gray RGB. Some rich blacks I have come against with, that were created manually by someone, containing 100%K + a mix of the other inks, return dark grays too. I have noticed that discarding the original profile and assigning either Adobe Photoshop 4 or 5 Default CMYK, both rich and solid blacks do convert, again if perceptual intent is used, to 0 RGB blacks. Of course the problem is that by changing the profile altogether it is not only the luminance of dark areas which becomes altered, but also the hue and saturation of all colors. So the question is, what is it that makes the profile Photoshop 5 Default CMYK not distinguish between what color solid or rich blacks produce whereas FOGRA39 or US Web Coated SWOP v2 does, and is there then a specific modification I can make to the image's original profile so that I get proper sRGB blacks while altering colors as little as possible? I do not know if it is of any importance to this issue the fact that ColorSync Utility reports that Photoshop 5/4 Default CMYK have a bkpt label, whereas FOGRA39 or US Web Coated SWOP v2 do not. PS: A related question with the same thread name was sent to quartz-dev, but while that one was ultimately about how to build a command-line rasterizer tool that modifies an input PDF on the fly (hence quartz-dev), this one is more about understanding what makes these profiles produce different colors for CMYK blacks, hence (colorsync-users). I hope no one thinks I am spamming or double posting, then.
