Update: Are Canon IPF printers any reliable?

Warm thanks' to everyone that responded on and off-list. I got some wonderful insights. I still have not made my mind yet but, as I am checking prices today -- I hate to acknowledge that money plays an important part of my decision --, but I see 24" Epson printers that are selling at bargain prices, way below Canon's and HP's :( See here: http://www.vistek.ca/results/ProPhotoPrinters/printers-inkjet-wide%20carr/Wi de-Carriage.aspx According to this page (those of you in the US can probably find even better deals than this), I can have a 7900 for $2600 cdn while the 4900 is selling for almost $100 cdn more? Color Geek on Windows

I realize the irony of asking this question here but can anyone confirm the locations of these important color files on Windows? On the Mac we save CMYK ColorPort reference files in this location: Mac OS: [user folder]>Documents>ColorPortResources>refs>cmyk ...so would that be: Windows: C:\Program Files\X-rite\ColorPort 2.0\Resources\ refs\cmyk on Windows? And on the Mac we save i1Profiler workflow files in this location: Mac OS: [user folder]>Library>ApplicationSupport>X-Rite>i1Profiler>ColorSpaceRGB>MeasureReferenceWorkflows ...so would that be: Windows: C:\Program Files\X-rite\i1Profiler>ColorSpaceRGB>MeasureReferenceWorkflows on Windows? New iMacs Monitors automaticlly de-calibrating

We have new 27 inch iMacs in our multi-user student labs with color managed monitors The new iMacs (v12,5) however now has an ambient light sensor. Users logging in for the first time on these iMac's always have the default for the new "Automatically adjust brightness (of monitor) as ambient light changes" check box ON, in the monitor control preferences. The problem this causes In our low-light level lab is that this auto feature then moves the brightness of the monitor down from our 120 cdm setting every time a new user logs on. Our IT Tech is still trying to find a way to have the auto brightness off as a default for new users but has so far been unsuccessful. Has anyone been able to solve this? Note: Students are given localized accounts on our iMacs that self erase after 8 day of non-use Running Mac OS 10.6.8 Peter Miles Photography Technician Fine Art Dept. using ColorPort for grayscale measurement and profiling

FWIW, I just written a short article on using ColorPort (instead of MeasureTool) to measure QTR grayscale targets. I've also released ColorPort XML files that allow one to select these targets within ColorPort. You should calculate density from spectral data -- Lab values can give you only a rough density estimation. Bruce Lindbloom has an Excel spreadsheet to calculate density from spectral data: <http://www.brucelindbloom.com/index.html?SpectCalcSpreadsheets.html> You can also use software like BabelColor CT&A or SpectraShop to use an i1 as Densitometer. Both of them do not support the iSis directly, but in SpectraShop you can import e.g. spectral data saved as CGATS ASCII file. Klaus Karcher

Hi all, I'm struggling to turn off the ambient light sensor setting (via script) in the Photography labs I manage Have been toying with the dAuto key in com.apple.BezelServices.plist preference, but doesn't seem to have any effect. Script or Command to Convert Between CMYK Profiles

I'm building an AppleScript where I need to take source CMYK values (profiled for GRACoL6) for color swatches in InDesign (listed as list of 4 real values between 0 and 100) and convert them to SWOP values. Are there any commands that I can run as shell commands to do this? Argyll? Epson 4900 SpectraProofer

We are considering upgrading to the Epson 4900 printers with the SpectraProofer option. Does anyone have experience with this? One question I have which I cannot seem to find an answer to in the literature is what is needed to drive the SpectraProofer. Is there Epson software that comes with it? Will third party software drive it? Does it build ICC profiles automatically and if so, what does that mean for building ICC profiles externally? One main intended use would be to keep multiple printers in calibration with each other. Does the SpectraProofer make this any more simple than if I already have an EyeOne iSis? Thanks for any input you can provide.

HP LP 2475 W calibration

I am trying to calibrate a HP LP2475w monitor using iProfiler 1.2 with i1 Pro on Mac Lion. I am aimimg for 100 luminosity. Calibration gives me a lumnosity of anywhere from 94 to 99. I know this monitor can reach much higher than that but calibration can't. I have disabled DDC/CI in both iProfler and the monitor as suggested by X-Rite. I donot see any auto brightness adjustment on the monitor and HP TS confirms that. I have contacted tech support at X-Rite and HP .They donot offer any solution other than what I have done above. Any ideas? Thanks you in advance. Faro

I've checked with SMPTE, and since the paper is under consideration for publication (possibly May or June), they have asked to hold off distribution. Before then, anyone who attended the conference can access it via the conference Sharepoint site.
