Warm thanks' to everyone that responded on and off-list. I got some wonderful insights. I still have not made my mind yet but, as I am checking prices today -- I hate to acknowledge that money plays an important part of my decision --, but I see 24" Epson printers that are selling at bargain prices, way below Canon's and HP's :( See here: http://www.vistek.ca/results/ProPhotoPrinters/printers-inkjet-wide%20carr/Wi de-Carriage.aspx According to this page (those of you in the US can probably find even better deals than this), I can have a 7900 for $2600 cdn while the 4900 is selling for almost $100 cdn more? Reading ambient light using an Eye-One Pro

List-members- In the past, I've used i1 Share to acquire spectral data from ambient light sources using the Eye-One Pro and it's ambient light filter. i1 Share won't run on Lion. Are there any suggestions for Lion-compatabile software that will grab spectral data from light sources? I know of Canon's Light Source Measure Tool but that will only provide degrees Kelvin (as well as illuminance). Regards, _peter

Hello! I also tried to make a profile for Ipad 3, and I agree, it looks very close to sRGB. But I made a measurements with ArgyllCMS. I created testchart, splited it to each single patches, synced it to Ipad and made a measirements with i1 in Chartread in patch mode. Actually, it's very fast because it's not necessary to move i1, it's just lay on Ipad all the time. If somebody interested in it, I can share ArgyllCMS commands I used for it. After that I tried to make a profile by different profiling software like iProfiler, ArgyllCMS and ProfileMaker. I used this profile to color manage images before syncing it to Ipad. It's interesting, that it's even possible to simulate D50 illumination, so the CMYK pictures, converted to Ipad profile looks quite close to the printed sheets under D50. The native Ipad's display illumination is 6500K. i1 Profiler 2.0 running on iPad

Xrite, You have already great solution in i1 Profiler. With the world moving towards iPad I would love to be able to run i1P on my iPad (at least on the iPad3). It would be great to be able to hook up iSis and iO table to iPad 3 and do some profiling. Is this possible? doable? using Apple dock connector or maybe wirelessly using wifi or bluetooth? Licensing could also be resolved by email or something instead of usb dongle. Maybe something like Adobe Creative Cloud subscription instead of standard serial number licensing. It's the number of passes. If the print head is new you may not detect any difference. Epson 4900 Print Settings

We installed the first of our Epson 4900's and I have a question about the print settings. Does anyone know what is the difference between "Fine - 1440 dpi" and "SuperPhoto - 1440 dpi"? The manual is completely useless. Obviously the SuperPhoto is supposed to be a better print quality, but what is it doing differently? Thanks. Ken Fleisher

Hi Again, Well, I think I've hit a dead end. The X-rite file "ECI 2002 CMYK random.txt" is formatted completely differently from the one i1Proflier generates. Either option - .pxf and .cxf - produced by "Page Data - Save", look the same when opened with the text editor, and neither is formatted anything like the ECI 2002. Is this reflecting the fact that the "ECI 2002 CMYK random.txt" file is CGATS format (1st line is "CGATS.5"), which ColorPort understands, and the data from i1Proflier is CXF (1st line includes this text: "CxF xmlns:cc="http://colorexchangeformat.com/CxF3-core"")? I suppose ColorPort can't import color exchange format data? Is there some way to translate cxf into cgats? Gutenprint mission as Linux moves towards color managed workflows

Gutenprint has provided general print services for Linux users, but it has also acquired a constituency of print professionals who use externally color-managed workflows to drive legacy hardware. A typical use of a professional externally color-managed workflow is "Photoshop Manages Colors" driving a Linux printserver where an external instance of Photoshop effects the color conversion to deviceRGB by means of Adobe's CMM, and a user-supplied profile. We understand the aspiration of integrated seamless color management as proposed by the members of OpenICC. We too have subscribed to this effort to provide better color for desktop Linux users. However, we have responsibilities to our historical constituency, and we cannot require existing users to abandon their workflows on the promise that future Linux color management will magically replace decades of proprietary development. Therefore, we believe that any new print solutions that we support should *also* fully enable the historical CM-off print queues as these are important for our existing userbase. These are also essential for our contributors as engineering and diagnostic tools. If the new code requested for color-management support does not integrate the functionality of the old, then those new developments will be relegated to our spare time, as our main effort goes into supporting the existing users and providing drivers for new hardware. Color server for a Kodak Approval system

Hi All I have a costumer that has a Kodak Approval System. They use to have a Gretagmacbeth iqueue coler server in front of their Kodak Approval, so they can make simulations and optimizing destinationprofile. The iQueue system is down and now they are looking for a good and cheep solution. Therefor I want to use the Colorburst Overdrive RIP as a colorserver for their Kodak Approval System. Is it possible and do any of you have any experience on that?
