In his posting of Thu, 14 Jun 2012, writes David B. Miller snip Some custom crafted PC's can have 32 GB RAM. What puzzled me was the sales person that was educating me said for PS, never need more than 16GB. Sure I good ask for the 32GB RAM, and he would not build the PC that way for me. End of that story. Snip Dear David Just wanted to correct the above statement. If you use a server type motherboard you can go to 128G of ram and more if that's not enough. Wow! I thank all responders for their expertise, suggestions, and the story about the IT department. That story helped in pushing harder to stay, for now, with MBP. I did research regarding custom crafted PC notebooks. Nearly every notebook configuration is less expensive than what I finally ordered. This is what I did order. $2,099.99 free shipping 17" MacBook Pro quad-core Intel Core i7 2.3GHz, 4GB RAM, 750GB 5400-rpm Hard Drive, Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M, Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display (Blowout Model - Installed w/ Mac OS X Lion) Mftr Part No : MD036LL/A No longer available from Apple. But available from a few other retailers. This is from MacMall. Sure, in 2013, Mac may offer the 17 inch display in the MBP. Will Apple bring back the optical drive? And what about all the connection ports I currently use, and are still available with custom crafted 17 in matte display PC. So? I placed my order to still be able to use my peripherals. Edmund and others are correct, in my opinion, don't update. Several of us, have had printer issues when working OS's had been updated or even upgraded. You with Macs have already had this issue. Unless you have been using a RIP. I have recently been using Gutenprint, along with the Epson drivers. Gutenprint is my main driver. When LION shows up on this new notebook, I wonder what will happen with the Epson drivers? In our early years with Windows 3 I got used to the PC and it's file system. Seems like the whole windows wa built like an upside down pyramid, on top of DOS. Don't know if it still is. Is it? PC's were used for accounting, business issues, etc. My employees, knowledgeable in imaging suggested the Mac. Purchased the blue and white G3 with OS 8.6. Those G3's are working somewhere, I guess. So are the G4 Audio's. And I still use my G5. This is being typed on my MBP 4.1, 17 inch matte display. I am keeping it! If LION isn't compatible with my workflow, then Snow Leopard will go on the new MBP. It's not to late to cancel the new MBP order. I don't know of any reason to. Again, thank you all! Cheers David B. I have been Mac for years. Snip Dear David I've been using PCs for digital imaging for the past fifteen years and have always specified them to be built to my needs or built them myself. That way there are no short cuts taken, and I get exactly what I want. Most PCs I see for sale are a real turn off as far as I'm concerned and are not what I need. The one thing you can say for the Macs is that these days their cases look good. The cases I use are similar in appearance to the G5 which I've always admired, but unlike the G5 I can get masses of drives in and have plenty of space for good air circulation. I run mainly 15K drives and expect these systems to last for many years with minimal maintenance. BTW I do run Macs for certain tasks but in all honesty I find the PCs are trouble free and not fussy what version of the software they are running. Hey Group, I use Macs and PC's. Macs for retouching and Color Management, and Window for rip software for proofing or other software only available for Windows. Hi David, I don't believe that 17 inch MacBook Pro has gone for good. I you can, just wait. Matt: Common sense is not enough. No flame, i am long term Mac user and fan, but working with PC regulary, and by my experience - yes, maybe less effort than it appears to be, but still (much) more complicated in many areas, than Mac. What PC do you use for digital imaging? I need to chose a PC for digital imaging. I have been Mac for years. What Apple has done, eliminating the 17 inch display completely, and charging $90.00 for the non glare 15 inch display, has frosted me. I do have the 17 inch non glare MacBook Pro available to me. However, I believe it's time to leave the Apple family! My requirements are non glare 17 inch display…… almost anything else would fall in place. No SSD's. Thank all of you in advance. David B. Hi Scott The first thing I'd try is calibrating to the native whitepoint, rather than the default of 6500K or any other kelvin value. The next thing I'd try is calibrating a different screen/system. If you get the same result then it's likely that the gel filters in the i1 Display have aged and it needs replacing. The new i1 Display Pro is much better that the old device and should give you better results. Newbee needs help with Eye-One and iMac

Trying to calibrate my Imac with cinema screen. Using (or attempting to use) eye-one display with its new lion software. Went through all the motions, did everything and when it generated a new profile, it rendered the screen very GREEN in color. Gamma was 2.2 Lum 120. Did it again and again it was green. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Would appreciate any and all help Scott Goldstein Los Angeles
