Update: Are Canon IPF printers any reliable?

Warm thanks' to everyone that responded on and off-list. I got some wonderful insights. I still have not made my mind yet but, as I am checking prices today -- I hate to acknowledge that money plays an important part of my decision --, but I see 24" Epson printers that are selling at bargain prices, way below Canon's and HP's :( See here: http://www.vistek.ca/results/ProPhotoPrinters/printers-inkjet-wide%20carr/Wi de-Carriage.aspx According to this page (those of you in the US can probably find even better deals than this), I can have a 7900 for $2600 cdn while the 4900 is selling for almost $100 cdn more? Something's fishy because similar carriage width Canon's and HP's will run me $1000 to $1500 more? Economics.... / Roger

Reading ambient light using an Eye-One Pro

List-members- In the past, I've used i1 Share to acquire spectral data from ambient light sources using the Eye-One Pro and it's ambient light filter. i1 Share won't run on Lion. Are there any suggestions for Lion-compatabile software that will grab spectral data from light sources? I know of Canon's Light Source Measure Tool but that will only provide degrees Kelvin (as well as illuminance). Regards, _peter

My vote is for the latter. Users should hold Blurb to the fire... until they get a reasonable match. And given that Blurb does provide a profile, I'd use that for soft-proofing (in Photoshop), and if the hardcopy differs significantly from the soft proof, pressure them to re-print. It's just unfortunate that you can't do an accurate soft-proof from LR. Lion, Mountain Lion, and Epson 900 series

Are there any known issues with Epson¹s 900 series and Lion/Mountain Lion? I read about problems with CS4 on Snow Leopard printing targets with the Epson driver. Just wondering if this problem still exists. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/solving.shtml I¹m considering a 9900, and own a 27² iMac i7. I use Aperture, all CS6 apps, and some Lightroom 3. I might also purchase an EFI ColorProof RIP, but that¹d be a ways off. Thanks. jesse

Weird printer profile

Dear all I made a printer profile using some cheap Inks target printed through Eye one software OSX 10.6.8 Epson R2400 Eye One Pro Eye One Match 3.6.3 i1 RGB 1.5 target Ink: INK Paper Epson Archival Matte The printer results are deeply weird (neutrals are massively cyan, blues are magenta) and looking at the profile in ColorSync Utility it is skewed and from approx 60 through to 100 L it does not even cover the neutral L* axis. I have uploaded a screen grab here http://tinyurl.com/c3f26pq I tested the i1 Pro for repeatability of measurement and against published values of a Colorchecker Target: it had an average error of about 1.5de 1976 - max 3de. I printed out nozzle checks of the INK inks and visually compared them against K3 inks - they are slightly different - magenta and cyan but not massively so. Has anyone got any ideas what to try next? Best Matthew Ward

I use two (2) MBPro 17 inch with matt screens. One is the 4.1, and the newer one is the 8,3. I have completely reverted back to 10.6.8! Yes, I have Lion and Mount Lion. I have used both. For my studio, I will continue with 10.6.8. None of the provisions of 10.7 or 10.8.1 have any influence on my digital imaging. David B. Miller, Pharm. ProfileMaker Pro

Another option to run ProfileMaker Pro 5.10 (other than a Windows boot partition) is to maintain a separate Snow Leopard boot disk or partition for legacy programs. I have plenty of disks and disk space and have done exactly that. Having said that, my ultimate plan is to move to i1Profiler in the near future. Lou

We are still clinging to ProfileMaker Pro v5.0.10 (Mac OS 10.6.8) since we already have it and it works for us. We will soon be upgrading to Mac OS 10.8.1 (or 10.8.2 depending on how long it takes). Does anyone know if ProfileMaker Pro v5.0.10 will run on Mac OS 10.8.1?
