Dear Brian, Yes, SilverFast provides the functionality of creating scanner profiles. The Creo is not supported natively but SilverFast HDR Studio (the "offline rawscanconverter") also makes good scanner profiles. CMYK Profile Targets

If I have an RGB printer (such as the Epson StylusPro 4900) and I want to print profile targets I would use Adobe Color Print Utility since there is no way to turn off color management in Photoshop. What if I have a CMYK print driver (such as our color copiers). The print driver was verified as expecting CMYK by printing an untagged gray ramp with CMY=0 so the ramp is black channel only. No color toner printed so the driver expects a CMYK image. How do I send the CMYK targets to the printer since ACPU only supports RGB images and Photoshop does not have a "no color management" option? Thanks. Ken

I'm not aware of any CMYK scanner targets nor CMYK scanner profiling software; it's all RGB. Monaco Profiler (Gold, Platinum) made extremely good scanner profiles, better than PM5 and the nearly identical i1Match scanner option. i1Profiler now makes scanner profiles--very good, and Silverfast has a profiling option as well. I've used all of these. But be aware that the software must support the particular target you have, and you must have the IT8 characterization file for the target, which is made by measuring it with a spectrophotometer. This is easily done with reflective targets, but transparencies require a special instrument, and normally the target manufacturer provides this file. Silverfast targets have an industry-standard layout and should be supported in most profiling applications. Make sure you download the IT8 file for the serial number range your target is in. If it's an old target that hasn't been stored properly (preferably refrigerated in a sealed bag) its color will no longer match the measurement data and should be replaced with a fresh one. Hello All I intend to procure the aforementioned scanner to run with included software on a G3 running OS 9.2. I own a silverfast 6x7 IT8 calibration target on Fujichrome Provia. Thank You Péter, it sounds so strange but copying in System Library or User Library / ColorSync / Profiles doens't works, but in Reccomended it works fine. Projector Calibration Problem

I am having a problem calibrating a projector. I have an i1Pro, Mac OS 10.6.8, and Eye-One Match 3.6.3. When I try to run the software, I get to the positioning step and I center the "dot" on the screen. When I do this, the actual i1Pro is pointing towards the bottom right of the screen and I get the message that it is positioned too close to the edge of the screen and to try again. If I visually point the i1Pro closer to the center of the screen, the "dot" moves to the top left and I still get the same error message. Is there something I might be doing wrong to get these messages? Could it be the old software on OS 10.6.87? Has anyone else calibrated any projectors with this combination of software and OS? What about when we switch to Mavericks? I know i1Profiler is supposed to support projector calibration. What other projector calibrating software is available that you would recommend? Thanks. A little feedback. You may recall that I had a project to quantify colors of metal samples, heat-treated at temperatures from 250°F to 600°F in 25°F increments. The engineer in this project wanted to generate a color accurate chart that would enable his people to assess the temperatures products had experienced in service. The samples were 1-½ inch diameter discs about 3/8 inch thick, and the flat surfaces were polished nearly to a mirror finish. Not only that, but the color after heat-treating was not uniform in all the samples, making a difficult project essentially impossible. I tried photographing the products under controlled lighting conditions with very diffuse light, using multiple setups. I even constructed a light tent in one setup. I used gray cards, color checkers and other known color samples in the shots. As I figured, and as most everyone here suggested, the task is essentially undoable. I can make the metal objects any brightness I want my varying the family of angles, diffusion, exposure, etc. I sent the photos to my customer and explained why the project would only lead his engineers to make incorrect assessments. As suggested here, I recommended that he create a batch of samples and make them available to his engineers, so they could compare the parts to real live samples. He agreed that was the best solution and will proceed in that manner. Thanks for your feedback and recommendations. Lou

Hi Alessandro, there is no problem with that profile at all. Please make sure that you placed it to the correct folder.
