Hi all, I am trying to test my proofing systems (12647-7 and 12647-8) accuracy for reproducing Pantone colors. I was wondering what would be the best process in order: > to create the file. Do I need export a CXF or a ASE file? If so, do I need to remain them in Lab? > to prepare and export the file to be printed: resolution, size patch, colorspace. > to be able to retrieve the name on each tint if it's feasible... This is not part of the discussion. You both have Affinity Photo….that’s my reason for the query. Have you found a simple way to create an unaltered border, and know what the image size is in inches? Roger, That is a good question. I sent it in and had it recalibrate when it was still Gretag, but I never saw a difference before or after, and it’s still making some of the best profiles I’ve every seen. What are places like Dry Creek and Chromix doing, as I think they’re still using Spectroscans for at least some of their work. The real question is how often do that actually need to be recalibrated? How much do that actually drift? I don’t know the answers to that, but I’m not going to worry about it as these days I’m probably doing a dozen profiles a year. Apple Display connector question

I am bound to an old G4 to use a machine locked calibration software and I wanted to fit that machine to the NEC PA271W which has two DVI connectors in addition to the DisplayPort in order to reduce the bulk of all that equipment on my desktop. There are adapters to use old ADC cinema dispalys on DVI graphic cards, but I could not find a solution to plug a DVI monitor to the ADC port of the G4. I bought a simple DVI to VGA adapter first, but that doesn't do the trick since the NEC PA271 doesn't take analog signals as I am now aware (the PA241 would). One solution would be to replace the graphic card with one that has DVI output, and maybe that could still be found used. But simpler: would someone know if there exists (or existed) a cable that converts the Apple ADC to use a standard DVI monitor on the G4? Paul

Spectrolino repair

A very well detailed and well written article. Mike’s perseverance and ingenuity are on display here. As the person mentioned in his article who lent him my own Spectrolino to see if that was the problem, I really appreciate having Mike as both a great friend and just as importantly, as neighbor only a block away. If my Spectroscan craps out, I know who I’m going to first. Thanks for all the hard work. Hopefully it will help others down the road. I thought I'd give an update to the list that I solved the problem. First off, however, I want to say thank you to those that responded, both on and off the list. I apologize for not replying earlier, but that's because I was neck deep in solving the issue. Anyway, I've written a blog post describing and showing how I solved the problem and fixed it.
