Hi Martin, The "issue" with F52 is the papertint. With F52 it is the first time that we are handling a reference characterization data set which is as far as -10b* from neutral. In fact, this papertint reflects quite well what we get from the many uncoated production substrates and prints, so this standard, describing a specific offset printing condition is really good... but: The issue is to be found in the typical handling of a white point in the ICC color workflow. The complete greybalance tips over to this very bluish paper tint and then the CMY-balance gets "out of order" to compensate accordingly. Maybe one of the ICC profiling solutions delivers some bette interpretation with the perceptual intent? With our attempt to keep a most consistent color appearance possible, we have developed our own gamut mapping. please find a little Lab-tif file showing a FOGRA39 to FOGRA52 conversion here: https://owncloud.gmgcolor.com/owncloud/index.php/s/OdMOCwwMz1PcQv8 If you open this in Photoshop, you can compare the image on the different Layers and you will see what a typical ICC conversion is doing, when you convert from F39 to F52, or what a GMG- DL-profile is doing. Our profiles can be used either in our ColorServer application or within our Photoshop-Plugin. Yep, and that’s where the problem is. PSO Uncoated and whatever number of variants you want to produce yourself from the 47 data yield images that match *fairly* well. If you make a high GCR custom profile from FOGRA52 and proof or print the results to compare them to images separate using PSO Uncoated v2 they do not match and will not get approved by a client. They are too blue. High GCR profiles using the FOGRA47 data work better than those made from 52. Hello, Our Visual Communications Program (VCP) is offering an “Applied Printing” class to students interested in learning to make print profiles for printing on various printer and media combinations. We have a number of Canon and Epson inkjet printers. The Canon printers are all imagePROGRAF models including (2) 5100’s, (1) 6400 and a Pro-1000. Our Epson printers include (2) Stylus Pro 4900’s (1) SureColor P-800 and (1) SureColor P-600. Our latest profiling project is to make a print profile for our Canon iPF6400 printer with Kodak’s Photo-Tex Adhesive Fabric media. We had very little luck getting recommendations for a Canon media setting that works well for printing color targets via Chromix’s “ColorValet”. Have tried several different Canon media settings including “Adhesive Textured Matte”, “Premium Plain Paper 80lb.”, “Special 1”, “Special 6” and “Thin Fabric Banner 3”. We get varying amounts of ink bleed on our color target prints with every setting we’ve tried. The least amount of bleed that we’ve found is with the “Thin Fabric Banner 3” media setting. That setting has a barely perceptible amount of bleed. We’ve not tried any of the “vinyl” settings, because this is a fabric media with a woven texture surface. Just wanted to ask if anyone on the list has experience printing on Kodak Photo-Tex Adhesive Fabric with any inkjet printer? If anyone has experience with a Canon 6400 and this media, could you please share your recommendations and/or comments? Thank You. Hi, Can anyone point me to an equation or algorithm for calculating the delta H between two Lab values? Can I simply set L1 to equal L2 (making the L component the same in both samples) and then calculate the delta-E using my specified method? Thanks! Matt

I’ve used the DNG Profile Editor to make small adjustments to the profiles that are included in Lightroom and ACR. I recently bought a Fujifilm XT-2 and on my Mac, running High Sierra, I made a small adjustment to one of the Camera profiles. No problem with the program or with the profile. Best RIP for proofing

Hello all - I have been out of the pre-press proofing game for about ten years, and I could use a little advice. I do some work for a small retouching house, and we would like to be able to add CMYK proofing to our list of capabilities. We are going to be using an Epson P800. I will be creating all of my own custom paper ICC profiles and I am wondering: 1. What is the best Epson proofing paper to use that will allow me to be within specs of the major proofing standards? 2. What is the most economical RIP that I can use? Again, it is a small shop, with one major client that will need proofing. I don't need the most robust RIP out there. Thanks! -- Mark Franzen

Scott, "UV Offset" and/or "UV Hybrid" inks, such as those used in sheetfed offset lithography, 40" Heidelgerg, Komori, Mitsubishi, Roland, KBA presses, to my humble knowledge, are formulated with a photo-initiator such that they instantly dry when illuminated by a light source containing certain wavelengths of light, in the UV range, such as 360nm. I'm not sure if it's that exact wavelength, though. I confess I have not personally seen much "UV curable inkjet printing" in my young carreer. Please excuse my ignorance but where have you seen them being used? Is that what Mike was referring to? Sorry I missed that entirely.
