Warnings when using an icc profile to pre-condition a higher quality targen command

Hi I have been experimenting with ArgyllCMS using an X-rite DTP-70 and ColorPort for reading charts. Converting the targen ti1 file use as an input into ColorPort is a bit fiddly, but, especially for larger target numbers makes reading targets a breeze. Definitely an acceptable tradeoff. With this approach I have produced some quite adequate profiles. My next step is to use targen with a "pre-conditioning" icc profile as a "-c" input. However, in doing so, the targen processing produces a huge number of warnings about "vertex location solving failed ..." and "Unable to locate vertex at node comb..." (see details below). My question is do these warnings have an effect on the quality of the resulting "ti1" file? I don't get these warnings if I use "-c sRGB.icm" as a switch. I am hoping to understand what elements increase the gamut volume and this is my current line of experimentation. Grateful for comments. Also, happy to document my method of converting a ".ti1" file for input into ColorPort if anyone is interested. 27 inch iMac 2017 & OS10.13.3 - breaking our i1Profiler display profiling. (for us only?)

Hi List members We have been profiling the display in our labs for many years now. This year we have refreshed many of our leased computers with 2017 27inch iMac retina 5K (model identifier 18.3). We are experiencing this issue with JUST the new 2017 iMac hardware (v18.3) running OS 10.13.3 (and .2). Not our older iMacs. Is anyone else having problems (outlined below). Or is it just us? The issue In Brief When i1Profiler adjusts the display brightness to our 120cdm target using automatic display adjustment (ADC) the screen brightness changes just as I would expect it to. However on our new 2017 27inch iMac retina 5K (model identifier 18.3), the OS is not updating the position of the brightness slider in the user interface of the System Preference / Displays to reflect the changes made by i1Profiles ADC. So the position of the brightness slider in the user interface stays in it’s earlier uncalibrated state. After i1profiler reads the patches there is a “verify” step. Something in the verify step is causing the OS to touch the System Preference / Display pane. The OS then sees the (unmoved) position of the brightness slider in the user interface and forces the display back to it. i1 profiler then measures this and reports it as the achieved target brightness. A Quick Test. If someone with a 2017 27 inch iMac (v18.3) with i1Profiler wants to run this test can they email to let me know they find. - Set system preference brightness slider to 100. - set target brightness in i1Profiler to 120 cdm - run i1profiler using ADC. ( the screen should get dimmed) - watch carefully during the Verify step. - Do you see the brightness of the screen suddenly jump back to 100? Please kindly let me know. Thanks for your help. Regards Peter Miles PS : Manual adjusting not working either. I tried to use the manual brightness adjustment method in i1Profiler to bypass this bug / issue. But on these new machines that does not work as the System preferences pane can’t be brought to the foreground when i1Pofiler has got the measurement window up.

Fogra53 - Myth or reality

Hi Alex Tricky and complicated and it will only work for very controlled workflows from creator to output who communicate how files are to be treated and test the workflows. Fogra 53/ CGATS21_CRPC7 V2/ XCMYK are battling for the same master Large CMYK spot. They all have a similar gamut but very different construction. Fogra 53 can only be used as a transfer space, the separations in it have a K start at 70. I prefer the construction of CGATS21_CRPC7 V2. Dear « Colorsyncers », I read a lot of discussions in several forums about the F53 CMYK working space presented by FOGRA. But, until now, I did not saw anything in the real life production. I know it’s often difficult to change attitudes and even more habits. Nevertheless, I was wondering if this ICC profile could be considered and used in a almost certain Media Neutral Workflow like the one used in RGB? After all, it could be maybe easier for non-specialist Creative Agencies to give a PDF “neutral” CMYK rather than very exotic. What do you think about it? Setting up consistent Adobe CC(xxxx) color settings in an educational multi-user environment.

Hi List Users. At our university we try to distribute selected initial user Photoshop preferences to all students that log onto our student color managed lab machines. This is to set up the Adobe CC suite color-settings (and a few others) to our color managed lab’s preferred settings. Every year its a challenge with a new OS and new version of Adobe CC to do. But this year we have been finding Adobe Photoshop CC2018 particularly troublesome for me and our IT techs to set initial user perfs that work, without creating 'show-stopper' bugs. I posted a request on Adobes feedback forum requesting their help to consider improving the ability of Adobe CC (xxxx) to be set to deliver a consistent experience when in a university muti-user environment setting.
