I don't suppose the driver is smart enough to change the output settings according to the selected ICC profile. Unless the information was embedded in the ICC profile. Color Picker results

Since we are on the subject of the color picker read outs in Photoshop,I am having an experience that I'd like to figure out. I am getting two different color picker readouts for HSV and RGB for the same Pantone spot color. The Lab and CMYK numbers do match. Please note that the color management preferences (color settings) are the same. Laptop 1: Windows 10 PC Photoshop CC v19.1.0Laptop 2: MacBook Pro Mac OS 10.13.2 Photoshop CC v2017.1.0 Laptop 1, color picker, (example) Pantone PurpleRGB= 165, 45, 181 CMYK= 35C, 88M, 0Y, 0Y HSB: 293/75/71 Lab: 47/69/-42Laptop 2, color picker, (example) Pantone PurpleRGB= 144, 65, 160 CMYK= 35C, 88M, 0Y, 0Y HSB: 290/59/63 Lab: 47/69/-42 Laptop 1, color picker, (example) Pantone 802RGB= 128/212/69 CMYK= 67C, 0M, 100Y, 0Y HSB: 95/67/83 Lab: 75/-63/63Laptop 2, color picker, (example) Pantone 802RGB= 117/189/73 CMYK= 67C, 0M, 100Y, 0Y HSB: 97/61/74 Lab: 75/-63/63 This is true of all spot colors. Lab values with a decimal

I’m loving Lightroom's ability to display Lab values with a decimal point. For colorimetric Art Repro workflows being able to dial in end points with this precision is fantastic. I’m conversely frustrated with Photoshop's inability to do the same. Rounding values to the nearest integer is unacceptable especially when dealing with delicate paper white differences. I like using Photoshop’s Color Picker as a color calculator to figure out values between different color spaces (measured real world values and the printer color space) but being limited to integers is feeling pretty 90s. The Info Palette now allows 32 bit values and Lab values with several decimal points. That’s helpful but one can’t enter those values into the Color Picker nor create patches with such precision. Any thoughts on this? Any easy to use color calculators like Photoshop’s Color Picker that support custom printer profile and list values (including Lab) to at least one decimal? I know can do this in Colorthink but it’s cumbersome. I thinking a quick, simple and easy color calculator could be an excellent feature for the next version… Scott Martin www.on-sight.com onsite color science insight PS: come on Adobe! Most gray patches for i1Profiler CMYK patch sets?

Hello all, Does anyone here know the “tipping point” for “color” vs gray patches in X-Rite i1Profiler? I’d like to find out what are all the different CMYK patch counts that optimize the number of neutral/near-neutral patches. There’s a list of these for RGB patch sets but nothing for CMYK patch sets that I’m aware of. Regards, Terry Wyse

(Trying to post this again as "plain text") Note that this is referring to an i1 DisplayPro on a Windows 10 64-bit system to which two ASUS PA329 monitors are connected. The i1 DisplayPro and Datacolor Spyder 5 are what Asus recommends, though ASUS claims their hardware calibration software supports other devices as well: https://www.asus.com/Microsite/Professional_Monitors/experience-calibration… Here's what I have recommended the user do. Please let me know if you see any flaws in this method. 1) Install the monitor software which will install the generic ASUS canned profile for the monitors (he uses 2). 2) Check the Windows 10 system profiles to insure that the canned profile is being used by both monitors. 3) Attach the i1 to the monitor USB port and calibrate each monitor to your desired colorspace preset (sRGB / aRGB) using the ASUS ProArt Calibration Software 4) After the monitors are calibtraed use the X-rite i1Profiler (i1Publish) software to create a profile for each monitor. Be sure to set the i1 software's "Desplay Hardware Setup" option to "Adjust brightness, contrast , gains, manually" That's on the lower left of page where number of colour patches is selected. This should prevent the i1 from changing the hardware calibration that was set using the ASUS software. We only want to create profiles for the monitors, not change the hardware settings. 5) Save and name the profiles per the monitor and colorspace preset that's being used. eg: 180401_PA329-L_sRGB.icm and180401_PA329-R_sRGB.icm. If the display is using the AdobeRGB preset then you would use names that reflect that. eg: 180401_PA329-L_aRGB.icm and 180401_PA329-R_aRGB.icm When changing the monitors between the sRGB preset and aRGB the profiles used at the system level would also need to be changed from the sRGB to aRGB ones. I suspect the above will work to a) Calibrate the monitors at the hardware level using the ASUS ProArt Calibration software and b) Profile the hardware calibrated displays using the i1 software which will generate profiles that can be used at the system level. Thank you for any help in confirming this method is OK or correct any errors :-) Russell
