I agree with Florian’s responses below regarding how we “know” what animals “see.” The parallel question is how we “know” what women with tetrachromatic vision “see.” There is a very good article from the BBC that describes this that might help. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20140905-the-women-with-super-human-visi… Here’s a short excerpt from the excellent story: Proving that these people actually see the world differently has involved a two-decade journey, however. Although the relevant combination of genes does not seem to be especially rare – perhaps 12% of women might have four distinct cones – many of the people that Jordan tested just didn’t seem to show any differences in their perception. But by 2010, she had found a subject who perfectly acted the part of a tetrachromat. Jordan’s “acid test” involved coloured discs showing different mixtures of pigment, such as a green made of yellow and blue. The mixtures were too subtle for most people to notice: almost all people would see the same shade of olive green, but each combination should give out a subtly different spectrum of light that would be perceptible to someone with a fourth cone. Sure enough, Jordan’s subject was able to differentiate between the different mixtures each time <http://www.journalofvision.org/content/10/8/12.full>. “When you ask them to discriminate between the two mixtures, a tetrachromat can do it very quickly. They don’t hesitate,” says Jordan. Unfortunately, much of the research in color perception is highly complex and often difficult for the lay public to comprehend. Good science writers can translate that research into language the lay public can understand. Poor science writing leads to exaggerated claims and misinformation. That said, the title of this article is a bit over the top. Generally an OEM sales rep pushes the request. Do you have access to the portal for any other products? Are you a current developer? We (Portrait Displays) work through our OEM sales team, but we are also dealers of the hardware so we generally get very good support…. Difficulties in having access to X-Rite I1 Pro 2 and I1 Isis SDK

Hi! I'm trying to get in touch with the X-Rite licensing team to get access to I1 Pro 2 and I1 Isis SDK, using the email licensingteam(a)xrite.com, according to instructions from the support help-desk. I already sent two emails, the first one more than a week ago, with no response at all. That's an entirely different behavior I'm used to receiving from X-Rite, usually providing quick and useful answers to my support tickets. I'm registered as X-Rite partner for more than ten years, and I had access to the first generation i1 SDK, probably earlier than 2010. I explained in both emails I own these types of equipment, and I want to use the SDK to develop solutions for my usage, so I don't have any plans to sell any software using their SDKs. Does anyone have any recent experiences in getting access to these SDKs? Thank you, Lorenzo

Gentlemen, Thank you very much for your comments. Adobe Color Printer Utility does work but doesn’t always center and yes it will not print CMYK targets. It spits out a blank page. All I wanted to do was output a 2 row GRACol control set there in ACPU and then also output form i1Profiler 3.2 and compare the two. I sent a small RGB target instead. With the Mac I can at least print with, Last Settings Used. I printed from ACPU and then looked at what was showing up in i1Profiler 3.2 to help figure out those settings. Delta E values were very encouraging. My other question was about Printer Dialog windows. ACPU and Photoshop have a standard printer dialog interface, but i1Profiler and many other apps in Mojave 10.4.6 do not, Preview and ColorSync Utility included. All the selections are available at one time and nothing gets grayed out. What I have found is that the Printer Dialog Extension (PDE) gets blocked by, Hardened Runtime’s library validation. I guess what I need is to unblock, Disable Library Validation Entitlement. Does anyone know how I would do that in Xcode? I tried working on the P800 Driver but now think that was the wrong approach, I should look at an application. Is anyone else seeing Printer Features, and all selections in one submenu, instead of, Printer Settings, and a normal dialog window? Printing Targets, Print Settings

Hi, I’m running macOS Mojave and want to print targets to an Epson P800. What is the current recommendation for printing profile targets? Is Adobe Print Utility the only way? I once printed from i1Profiler, but with Mojave 10.14.6 the print settings dialog is an unusable mess. All of the “Print Features” are available in the same submenu, Basic, Advanced, AWB, all lumped together. Many Apple apps also have this barfed up jumble of selections which make them unusable for any printing. Photoshop still has the old interface and naming “Print Settings,” and the separate tabs come up for Basic, Advanced, and AWB has its own selection interface, and one can print. But of course with ColorSync broken and always insisting on some profile you don’t want, printing targets won’t work in Photoshop. Does anyone know what is going on with the printer dialog windows? Seems Apple keeps breaking usable workflow? Thanks, David

I did some comparisons between sending from ACPU and from Photoshop, on Windows, not long ago, and I believe my conclusions were that there were no differences between the two approaches, but that was on Windows (I'll have to dig up my notes if that can serve any purpose). The world of high end monitors is changing? I stumbled on this "Color Calibration Report" from some Taiwanese manufacturer: https://1drv.ms/b/s!AkD78CVR1NBqkt8MK5418QlCEBbkHA?e=tAYocf I'm shocked by the data shown in Page 2, especially the brightness uniformity; it's all "0.000", at every 25 positions? And the Color Uniformity barely crosses over the 1 DeltaE mark. Are today's monitors that good? The report you got with your unit showed a max of 3 DeltaE for the screen uniformity? Now that's interesting and impressive. I wish that was part of their official specs ☹ I'm getting bounced between tech support and sales support with regards to this question... Will wait some more before throwing the towel.
